Baptisms In the Whittlewood Churches we welcome people of any age from the villages for baptism. Baptism services take place at Silverstone on the second Sunday of the month at 11am, at Abthorpe on the third Sunday at 9.15am, Slapton on the third Sunday at 5pm, Whittlebury on the second Sunday at 11am and at Paulerspury on the first Sunday at 9.15am. The service can be combined with Holy Communion. Please talk to the Rector if that service combination is your choice. Reverend Canon Bridget Smith can be contacted about Baptisms (and weddings and funerals). The date of the service is discussed so that it fits in with the family, the godparents and the schedule of services for the Church concerned. Then there is a time of preparation for the parents of a baby, at which those involved go over the service together and look at the promises that will be made on behalf of the child and some of the ways that these can be fulfilled as the family grow together. Each person to be baptised has already received a name, and at the Baptism service, is received into the Church’s family. We always hope that anyone who has been baptised will come to confirm the promises for themselves once they are old enough. Every year there are opportunities to do this. Please contact Canon Bridget if you are interested. It is a very moving and wonderful experience when a person receives the gift of God’s Spirit at Baptism. |
Weddings There are usually several weddings each year within the Whittlewood benefice. They are very happy occasions and often have strong links to the village and/or church. Please contact Canon Bridget as soon as you start making plans, if you (or your fiance(e)) live in Silverstone, Abthorpe, Slapton, Whittlebury or Paulerspury and wish to get married in your local church. There will be time to discuss the service, choose hymns and readings to make the service personal and very special. Then there will be an opportunity to talk about making the most of your future together. Flower arrangers can have access to the Church, but we have to ask you not to use any lilies as Canon Bridget is very allergic to them. At Silverstone the Church Flower Arrangers may be able to decorate the Church for you if you wish. We hope that each wedding day is a wonderful and happy day for all who are there. |
