Peter Byng at his first visit to Abthorpe after his licensing as a reader

Welcome to the Whittlewood Parishes

Our vision in the Whittlewood parishes is to know God better, love others and reach out with the good news of Jesus

The Whittlewood parishes are a group of Anglican parishes located in South Northamptonshire.  We are in the Deanery of Towcester, the Archdeaconry of Northampton and the Diocese of Peterborough.

The parishes are Silverstone, Abthorpe, Slapton, Whittlebury and Paulerspury.  The area is very rural and the five villages have populations ranging from under 100 to just over 1500.

This is a farming community, both arable and livestock, mixed with some local industry and we also include Silverstone circuit, home of the British Grand Prix, in our area - which brings us bang up to date.  Many people who live here travel far and wide to work, enjoying coming home to the peace and tranquillity to be enjoyed in the area.  There is quite a large expanse of countryside still forested (a remnant of the ancient hunting forest of Whittlewood).

Our rector is the Revd Canon Bridget Smith.  There are services in all five churches on most Sundays (except the 5th Sunday in the month, when we have a joint service in one of our churches).  All are welcome.

We hope you enjoy your visit to our website.  If you would like to make any comments, please go to our Contacts page.
