from St James Academy, Kimilili
This is an email from Ann Lipson in
Kimilili, Bungoma diocese
A freak wind hit the school on Monday evening. Senior students were still
there and in class. The roof was removed fully from two classrooms and
partially from one. One child was thrown across the room, but we thank
God she is not seriously hurt. Books and papers were swept out and
destroyed. The roof parts were thrown over the high fence and landed in
the Stadium next door. Thankfully there were no children there playing
football.

Evangelist Robert Chenane, Rev Julius Wamukota (former Vicar) and I went
to encourage the children and staff in the morning and Bishop Wabukala
came in the afternoon with a team of clergy from the Diocese. The
children were very fearful, but we all encouraged them. (Robert, Julius
and I all went back in the afternoon when the Bishop came.). members of
the school Committee were very active all day.

I have attached some photos. 292 shows part of the damaged classrooms.
293 shows some of the roof in front of the classrooms. The pieces were
carried from the Stadium. 299 shows Bishop Eliud encouraging the senior
pupils. (The younger ones had gone home by the time he arrived.) The
damaged classrooms can be seen immediately behind him.
We need your prayers. Of course any help with repairs will be gratefully
received, though I know there are so many other needs at this trying
time for
kenya
.
God bless you,
Ann

Lulu
Pelly
, for six years the friendly voice at the end of the phone in the
diocese’s Adult Education office at
Bouverie Court
,
Northampton
, was ordained Deacon at Peterborough Cathedral on Saturday 5 July.
Lulu
lives at Potterspury, where her farmer husband manages 3,000 acres of
arable, soft fruit and Aberdeen Angus cattle, fallow deer, Christmas
trees, trout lakes and, more recently, four buffalo! She will become
Assistant Curate in the Tove Benefice, at group of parishes in and
around Towcester.
Until she was 13
years old Lulu lived in Uppingham where her father was Headmaster of
Uppingham School. The family then moved to Buckinghamshire and
Gloucestershire before Lulu went on to
Bristol
University
to study History, History of Art and Italian.
“My faith journey
is a long one beginning in early childhood,” says Lulu. “I went to
Woodard
Prep School
in
Yorkshire
which taught me the discipline of morning and evening prayer and
provided wonderful wide open spaces to play in our free time. Being out
in the open enjoying God’s creation is still very important to me. I
tried turning my back on God in my thirties, but he persisted and did
not let me go.”
Whilst her two
children were growing up she did temporary work of various kinds,
including running the Pick Your Own business at the farm during June and
July.
“Coming to
Potterspury I vowed I would avoid the PCC and such involvement but to my
surprise I became Churchwarden at St Nicholas in 1994 and began Reader
training in 1996. I was licensed as Reader in 2000 and selected for
Ordination Training in July 2005. I have been studying with the Eastern
Region Ministerial Course for the last three years.”
